I've always liked the idea of [livejournal.com profile] ficrecfriday & have watched the community since it started. Although I haven't rec'd anyone, yet, I always enjoy reading the fics that others have written. So, needless to say, Quinn & I are a bit (to use her word) chuffed that two of her fics have been rec'd.

Notes: "This is an older fic, I found it because of a more recent one. Doing the ol' friends of friends page thing and the icon caught my eye, so I read and then clicked on the related tag. Out of this series of stories, this one is my favorite. An immortal woman, and here is the crux of her gift and her curse...to love and leave. Again and again. It cuts to the heart of the problem with immortality when those around you are considerably more finite."

Notes: "This just struck me as one of those true to life moments that we all have sometimes, and was very well done."

For [livejournal.com profile] rein_it_in:
One thing that I've wanted to try and "realize" is how difficult being Immortal truly is. From what I've read about the Witness Protection Program, having to change lives is a lot like that. What makes it worse is knowing at the beginning that sometime, for whatever reason, that life will have to be left behind.

For [livejournal.com profile] lt_wes_janson
This is another "changing lives" piece, and the fic [livejournal.com profile] zippyknowsbest wrote here just struck a chord with Quinn. It's partly about needing to change her appearance, but also how a simple haircut can be therapy, how it almost forces you to let go of the past. Trying to explain that to guys just gets you a *blank stare of fail*.

Thanks to you both for reading & rec'ing! I'm always curious to know how people perceive Quinn & what they think of her.

Don't feel guilty! We have people who only post once a month or so or not at all. It's meant ENTIRELY for fun and you can absolutely read without reccing if you prefer. =D

You're welcome. She caught my eye as being another horsewoman named a variant of Elaina (name just suits ranchers, eh?) and it made me smile, then as I read, I realized she was part of the Highlander universe. I love the approach you've taken with crafting different lives for her over the centuries, some of them famous. Other being quite ordinary.

I think you handle her struggles with what it means to be long-lived very well. The potential for that much more joy also means much greater heartache.

Actually, I "borrowed" the name "Elaine Jameson" from the neighbor I had growing up. She was the one who first introduced me to horses & I'll always remember her for that.

As far as her past lives, when I started writing her, I fell into a bit of a pitfall with having a ton of famous aliases, but quickly realized that wasn't necessary. Instead, I tried, and will keep trying, to make what lives she told me about as real and human as possible.

It really is a balancing act with her in trying to post the good as well as the bad. While Immortality isn't easy, I also want to show that it has its good points as well. So, I'll definitely be working on some non-angsty-type fics.

Oh, I borrow names frequently just as I borrow character traits from the people in my life to create my characters. It's all part of that 'writing what you know' belief I hold.

I'm writing Laine from the flipside of that equation in many ways, she's human and perfectly mortal but she's involved with someone who isn't. The 'here and now' tactic she uses towards loving him is tempered with the knowledge that she has the easy end of the deal. She gets her forever, he gets to cope with the reality that someday she'll be gone and he'll still go on. Angst? Sure, but there's a lot of happiness to be had too.

I think you're doing a great job balancing out the various parts on Quinn's life. (I've been poking around reading a lot this afternoon) She comes across as very realized and fleshed out for a fictional character.
