He would have answered her, but she disappeared just as soon as she said it.

It doesn't matter. He is getting hungry now that it's later and he will go down to join her.

He changes for dinner, his own way of telling her that he's not completely mad at her. He's willing to hear her out on this.

When he's through changing, he goes down to the kitchen. He knows that she hasn't made dinner yet, but he thought that he would help.
