Morning!Quinn Part 2

Quinn could hear the lesson behind the words, and it wasn't lost on her. Sometimes she laid in bed at night wondering if Wade was alright, if Scotty had gotten a scholarship to CU like he'd wanted, if Erin and her beau were still together, whether it was worse leaving or being left...

"Thing is, I can't undo the past," she sighed. "But at least Immortality gives me a chance to set it right."

She might've been talking about Wade, or Adam, or something else entirely.

"No you can't but that much is true. You can set it right."

He's not sure who he is talking about either.

Regrets were a part of Immortality just the same as swords and aliases, and it wasn't often that a second, third, or even fourth chance presented itself. But when it did, it couldn't be ignored.

"Rather like us, huh?" she asked with a knowing tilt to her head.

"I don't think that there is anything that defines us, Quinn. What are we, exactly?"

The answer was deceptively simple, and she replied with a cheeky smirk.

"You mean besides old friends who've long since stopped actually wanting to kill each other?"

He grins, "Yes, we have stopped that. Although, we aren't opposed to prank or break each other."

She winced playfully, but still looked properly chastised.

"So which is it? Paybacks or what?" she asked with a raised eyebrow, but then turned serious. "And no more pranks, maiming, killing or otherwise breaking. Well, outside of sparring practice anyway. I promise. Deal?"

She held out her hand for him to shake, sealing the bargain. Not that there really was one, but still. She always kept her word.

He looks at her hand for a moment as if trying to decide. Finally he takes it, "Deal. Sparring practice only."

It all depends on what they define as 'sparring'.

She was starting to think she'd have to push up her sleeves to show she wasn't wearing any hidden daggers or anything before he finally shook it. She tried not to let out an obvious sigh of relief. At least they'd managed to put that much behind them.

"Right. So, lunch or brewery? Or did you have something else in mind?"

"Brewery." He says with a grin.

"No need to ask you twice, is there?" she laughed. "Hope you don't mind the walk. It's only about a mile down the road. Just a good stretch of the legs."

"Thankfully, I have the legs for it." He says with a smirk as he gets to his feet and stretches.

Not that she'd admit it, but yeah, she couldn't help admiring said legs or his lean torso. She quickly drained the last of her water, trying not to appear too obvious before standing and walking back out into the entry hall. Quinn whistled for the dog who came bounding down the stairs.

"Right then, shall we?"

"Yes."

He follows her and continues to talk, "I wasn't going to tell Alexa about myself. She found out by accident when we were in Greece. I left her to help MacLeod and while I was gone, she was left to site seeing. There was a statue erected in my honor that I...forgot about. It was for the first Olympic games in Athens. I won the very first foot race. Anyway, she saw the statue and...put two and two together. It was too much of a coincidence that my very unique face was etched in marble."

Quinn resisted the urge to laugh. The thought of Adam immortalized, no pun intended, in marble just struck her as funny.

"And since the Greeks are fairly well known for their admiration of the human form, I'm sure there aren't any well-placed fig leaves."

Though she didn't laugh outright, her eyes sparkled with mirth as she gave him an exaggerated, approving look.

"So, should I go change into my running things and make a race out of it?"

"No. And let me tell you, it IS to scale."

Actually, larger, but he's not going to tell her that.

"Maybe some other day."

"Fair enough," she replied with a bit of a smile and opened the front door. Naturally, Brutæ was the first one out. "I usually run first thing most mornings anyway if you ever had a mind to join me."

"If you get me out of bed, then I'll join you."

She raised an eyebrow as they started the walk down the drive.

"Not a morning person then?"

"I am. It's getting me motivated, these days. That's the problem."

She looked at him and thought she saw a touch of sadness in his eyes, but that could also very well be a trick of the light. Losing someone was never easy and she could tell that he'd cared for Alexa deeply. But there would be time to ask about her later.

"Motivation, huh?" she teased instead. "Do I need to dangle a carrot in front of you, then?"

"I'm not a horse. Although, a good beer will do." He says, his eyes now back to where they were before talking about Alexa.

"Guess you're not at that," she smiled.

The last of the morning mist had cleared out and the sky was an endless shield of blue. She breathed in the fresh scent of the sea.

"Not exactly New York, is it?"

He stops a moment to look at it, "No, it's not. Although, I do better in big cities. I suppose when you 'grow up' on the cusp of civilization in a world so vast, you finally long for something different. New York is completely different from anything that I am used to."

Quinn nodded.

"Y'see, that's where we're different," she replied. "I can only take folk in small doses. I never could get used to large cities. All that noise, all that pollution. Besides, I like being where I can see the stars at night."

"I can see the stars just fine in my penthouse. One of those Olsen twins have a place right across from me."

He continues to walk.
