Quinn could hear the lesson behind the words, and it wasn't lost on her. Sometimes she laid in bed at night wondering if Wade was alright, if Scotty had gotten a scholarship to CU like he'd wanted, if Erin and her beau were still together, whether it was worse leaving or being left...

"Thing is, I can't undo the past," she sighed. "But at least Immortality gives me a chance to set it right."

She might've been talking about Wade, or Adam, or something else entirely.

"I am. It's getting me motivated, these days. That's the problem."

She looked at him and thought she saw a touch of sadness in his eyes, but that could also very well be a trick of the light. Losing someone was never easy and she could tell that he'd cared for Alexa deeply. But there would be time to ask about her later.

"Motivation, huh?" she teased instead. "Do I need to dangle a carrot in front of you, then?"

"I'm not a horse. Although, a good beer will do." He says, his eyes now back to where they were before talking about Alexa.

"Guess you're not at that," she smiled.

The last of the morning mist had cleared out and the sky was an endless shield of blue. She breathed in the fresh scent of the sea.

"Not exactly New York, is it?"

He stops a moment to look at it, "No, it's not. Although, I do better in big cities. I suppose when you 'grow up' on the cusp of civilization in a world so vast, you finally long for something different. New York is completely different from anything that I am used to."

Quinn nodded.

"Y'see, that's where we're different," she replied. "I can only take folk in small doses. I never could get used to large cities. All that noise, all that pollution. Besides, I like being where I can see the stars at night."

"I can see the stars just fine in my penthouse. One of those Olsen twins have a place right across from me."

He continues to walk.

"Bit young for you aren't they?" she asked with a smirk.

"Well, yes. I'm not staring at them. I can just see them..."

"I'm sure," she teased. "Make me glad I don't have neighbours. No one to see what colour my pajamas are."

"Or if you are even wearing pajamas." He says with a slight grin because sometimes he likes to give his neighbors a thrill just because he's easily amused.

It'd take a lot more to make her blush. After all, she'd seen thousands of naked men in her life. Most Celtic warriors fought in the altogether. Saved on infection that way.

"Not exactly the modest type are you?" she asked with a smile. "Remind me to knock first before going into your rooms."

"No, not at all. The looks can be amusing, though. Especially from MacLeod."

Quinn shook her head, smiling wryly.

"Any other habits I should know about? Besides walking around starkers?"

"Maybe. We'll save that for another day. It will be like a surprise."

"Hopefully a good surprise and not a rude awakening."

The road ahead began to curve down and away from the shoreline. About a quarter mile farther on was the turn off for the brewery.

"I've always meant to stop by," Quinn said, jerking her chin in the direction of the brewery. "Heard they had a nice selection and a good café."

"I hope it's not like that either!"

He looks at her with a slight frown because he thought that she was talking about something else. "Oh."

"Oh, for gods' sake!" she laughed. "I meant odd habits! I wasn't talking about that!"

"I knew that." He says with a smirk.

"You sure about that?" she asked with a sideways look of yeah, right.

"Yes, I was talking about you always wanting to stop by. I thought that you meant that you always wanted to stop by where I lived, but never did."

"Don't flatter yourself," she smirked. "I meant the brewery. I sometimes drive down to Skara Brae or Stromness, and I pass by here. I've just never stopped in."

"Well, this will be an adventure." He says.

"A relatively safe one, all things considered," she agreed. "Least I don't have to worry about keeping my head."
